Outdoor Activity in Oita Prefecture: Canyoning and River Tubing at Yufu River Canyon, located on the border of Beppu City and Yufu City. This area, covered by the Yufu River pyroclastic flow from 600,000 years ago, has been eroded by the river's water flow, forming the narrow and deep Yufu River Canyon. The depth of the canyon is said to range from 20 to 80 meters, spanning a distance of over 10 kilometers. Canyoning involves walking along the riverbank and descending waterfalls, while River Tubing involves using a tube to navigate through the deeper sections of the river by paddling. You will descend a 15-meter waterfall using ropes and reach the deep parts of the canyon. Within the canyon, there is a narrow section called "jabuchi" There is a pool with a winding shape like a snake., which is less than 2 meters wide. Known as the chockstones, these wedges of rock, about 15 meters high above the gorge, have remained unscathed by recent earthquakes and are a majestic presence. Around noon, sunlight illuminates the deep parts of the canyon, creating a unique landscape exclusive to the Yufu River Canyon, with the striking contrast between the sunlight, the black walls of welded tuff, and the green moss. The beauty and mystique of this place are truly exceptional. During the tour, you will encounter a total of 22 waterfalls cascading down the walls of the gorge (the number of waterfalls may vary depending on conditions). It's rare to find a tour that offers the opportunity to see such a large number of waterfalls. Please note the following details regarding the tour: - The tour will be conducted in small groups. We cannot accommodate a large number of participants. The maximum group size is 6 people. - This will be a private tour. We offer tours for 50,000 yen for 1 to 4 people. (Additional participants up to 2 people can be accommodated, with an additional fee of 20,000 yen per person for groups of 5 or more.) - The meeting time at the location will be at 9:00 AM at the Yufu River Canyon Tourism Association. Alternatively, we provide transportation from hotels and stations in Beppu City, Yufu City, and Oita City. The transportation is free, and we plan to pick you up around 8:30 AM. The tour will end at around 2:00 PM (the tour duration may vary). - The age requirement for participation is approximately 13 to 65 years old (middle school students and above).

After descending the 15m waterfall, you are in the deep part of the canyon. It is a place that can only be visited by those who participate in this tour. There is a place called "Jabuchi" nearby. The Yufugawa Gorge is said to have an area of 12km, but the narrowest part of the 12km is in "Jabuchi". Less than 2m at its narrowest point. The Yufugawa Gorge is said to have a depth of 20m to 80m, but it is thought that the depth near Jabuchi is about 50m. A narrow and deep canyon.

If you go ahead through Jabuchi, you will come to a place with chockstones. A large rock is caught in the air at a height of about 15m, supported by the walls of the canyon. It has a majestic presence and did not fall even in the big earthquake a few years ago. In the area from the 15m waterfall to Jabuchi and Chockstone, the sun only hits the bottom for about 2 hours around noon. Perhaps that is why the sight of the sunlight pouring down on the bottom of the gorge is a spectacular sight. The contrast between the black walls of the gorge, the green of the moss and trees, and the glittering sunlight—these three contrasts—is what made us visit the depths of the Yufugawa gorge. It inspires people.
